Australia is so cool that it’s hard to even know where to start describing it. The beaches are beautiful; so is the weather. Not too crowded. Great food, great music, really nice people. It must be a lot like Los Angeles was many years ago. (Mary-Kate Olsen)
I’m not so sure Australia is exactly like LA was many years ago, but I do know it is a pretty fab’ place to live. The beaches are beautiful. The weather is a definite plus. It isn’t too crowded. As a rule, the food is great, as is the music (as I sit here listening to the Whitlams play). There’s a reason they call it The Lucky Country.
And now, wherever you are in the world, you too can have a wee piece of seriously stylish Australiana, all thanks to the most gorgeous mobiles available from The Australian Souvenir Company and created by my super talented friend, Sheridan. My Kiwi nephews and niece don’t know it yet, but they are each receiving one for Christmas.
Sheridan’s vision is to produce beautiful souvenirs that are both designed (by her!) and made in Australia.
The hanging mobiles are her first line – they are designed to be lightweight and pack flat for easy postage. Have a look and see what you think…

How gorgeous, i love the ferry mobile! 🙂 Very talented friends you have 😉
Sheridan is SUPER talented. She was the one we all aspired to be like at ISCD, BCD… Her work is very cool.
The sea dragons are fabulous! I’ve always been fascinated by those creatures!
The are gorgeous, aren’t they? Australia has some amazing really marine life. If you ever make it down here with Dimples and the Cap’n, you must schedule in some time snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef.
I like that vintage transportation mobile. And I always liken LA to Sydney… They are distinct but have similarities.
The transport mobile is so ‘Australia’ to me, M
Love that iconic koala mobile!
Isn’t the koala cute? It’s fascinating to see them up close and personal. We took my nephew earlier in the year – they are so doped up on all the eucalyptus.
Great effective design. About time, we are so much better than kangaroo paw bottle openers.
Sheridan is a star, Sue. When we were at design school together. she whipped up this incredible piece on Sydney lace. SO talented.
Love the koala. I always find it curious that Australia has some of the most darling animals in the world (like koalas and kookaburras) and some of the nastiest (crocs, snakes, funnel spiders). I suppose that’s what makes the Australian outdoors so intriguing…
My favourites are the wombat and the platypus, J
Do love a good mobile
Me, too! 🙂
Here’s hoping the nephews and niece do, as well…
I searched for an Australian animal mobile for my daughters nursery and couldn’t find one and now here it is! Perhaps for the next little one, being married to an Aussie but living in the states I want to make sure our daughter knows where half of her is from. Nothing better than floating iconic Australian things above her head 🙂 Can’t wait to visit in just a month. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Jen – thanks for stopping by. I think a wee piece of Australiana would be just the ticket for your bi-cultural kid(s) (I’m the product of a Kiwi/German union and always loved learning more about where my Mum came from).
Have a great trip down under! 🙂
I’ll go along with you on the basis of the sea dragons – just gorgeous 🙂
They are ethereal creatures, aren’t they?
Little miracles. When I was a kid the older brother of friends I played with was already a CSIRO scientist studying them, and I just couldn’t believe how beautiful and otherworldly they were.
I found the blog entry quite interesting. It might be quite interesting for you to have a look at all my Australian Beaded Animals © these are my design and they are all fair trade. Perhaps you might be interested to share the photos on your blog some time. They are very unique, creates a lot of interest and have been very popular.
The Seadragons are beautiful……….. great to see an Australian souvenir actually made in Australia, that is well designed and thought out and that stands out from the sea of made in China stuffed animals.
You know our Sheridan – a class act! 🙂
