Want to know what ACTUALLY happens on 30-Day AIP Reset…?

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive about joining the 30-day AIP Reset program is, “Do I have to take things all the way back to the elimination phase?”
The answer is an emphatic, “no.”
You absolutely don’t need to take things back to the elimination phase of AIP to join AIP Reset. Unless you want to, of course.
If there are foods you have successfully reintroduced in your AIP way of life and you know you tolerate well, then taking your diet all the way back to the full elimination phase of the AIP isn’t a requirement (unless you decide you want to). In fact, I’d venture that while most resetters are tweaking their diets back to a baseline that works for them, for most this doesn’t mean strict elimination phase.
And thinking about this made me realise there may be other things about what happens on AIP Reset that not everybody knows…
AIP Reset was born from my need to (re)find my AIP groove
I had stumbled. In reality, I stumble with some frequency!
Back in 2016, when I’d been following my post-reintroductions, AIPesque diet for a while, I realised I had strayed further from my personal protocol than was ideal. And, it was affecting my health.
And, when I mentioned my need to recalibrate my health caper to my AIP community, some of them wanted to join me. 127 of them, to be exact.
The very first AIP Reset was born.
The program has evolved since that very first one back in September 2016…

So, what happens on AIP Reset now?
Let’s start with the practical stuff of what’s included in each AIP Reset:

THIS is what really happens on AIP Reset:
A whole lot of community and camaraderie
When you suffer from a chronic disease (or two or more), life can become isolated. And, AIP doesn’t exactly make that easier, does it? You get very used to swimming against the tide when you’ve been doing this AIP thing for a while.
When you join the AIP Reset gang, you immediately gain entry to a month of sharing your ‘stuff’ with others who understand. There’s a sense that you can bring your whole self to this collective of women. You don’t have to hide. You can share your underbelly in a way that you perhaps can’t so easily do in the ‘real world’.
Friendships are born in AIP Reset.
And, of course, you can be as active or quiet as you like. It’s totally ok if you prefer to watch from the sidelines for a while before sharing (although – I do encourage you to share. It’s how we human beans connect with each other)
You learn how to chunk down your health caper
I am fond of saying that this AIP caper is a BIG beastie. It’s a bit like an elephant… How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
And this is the best way to approach this healing adventure, too. One bite at a time.
By picking a different diet or lifestyle aspect on each day of the program, joining AIP Reset helps you remove some of the overwhelm that often comes with BIG, hairy change expectations. Because you are within the confines of a group of fellow AIPers following a similar path, the volume is turned down on the noise of dealing with the AIP nay-sayers in your life and this frees you up to experience your AIP caper with significantly more grace and ease.
You set some S.M.A.R.T. goals (and start a new habit)
Part of this chunking down process is about learning how to set S.M.A.R.T. goals (goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound) for the month that resonate for you. One of the very first things you do in AIP Reset is to identify what is most important for you to achieve over the month. Which bits of your AIP elephant will you be working on?
And then, once you have framed your goals – if you feel comfortable doing so – you share your goals with the group as a way to commit and stay accountable.
This gives you the impetus to really focus on the important stuff; the stuff that matters most to you at this stage of your AIP experience.
You personalise your AIP way of life
The further you dig into your AIP caper, the more you realise that you are in this for the long haul.
If you’ve spent any time at all hanging out here with me, you already know that I’m a big fan of creating rituals that serve me. A ritual is just a healthy habit on crack – one that I am very intentional about having in my life. We all have the same 24-hours in the day. The more consciously you add to your rituals, the more you can crowd out the ‘stuff’ that doesn’t serve you.
I’m also a fan of fitting my personal AIP way of life to my life. As opposed to fitting my life to the protocol. It’s a small but important distinction. But, it’s one that allows you to shine a light on developing rituals and habits that serve you.
Your rituals and habits may look very different from mine. It’s all about making this thing about you.
You give yourself a gift of self-care
I regularly ‘reset’ back to my AIP baseline. At least a couple of times a year. That means I actually do an AIP Reset while I’m facilitating the program. Yep. I’m in the trenches with you, too.
I think of AIP Reset as a wee gift to myself; a form of self-compassion, if you will.
It is very human to drift from your AIP framework when life gets in the way. I refer to this phenomenon as AIP creepage – when you’ve been following your personalised version of the template – both the elimination diet and the lifestyle factors, but for any given reason your performance in terms of sticking to the letter of the protocol starts to slide.
It’s almost impossible to stop some degree of creepage. And this is because you can’t control all the variables in your life.
AIP Reset gives you both space and structure to take things back to basics so that you can feel good about being you.
You join a guilt- and judgment-free zone
We don’t do that in AIP Reset. We’re kind of the opposite to that, even. We are very focused on building you up.
You have enough people in your life imposing expectations and requirements on how you should look, feel, behave… In AIP Reset you get to hang out with a great bunch of AIPers who understand that this chronic illness thing is hard work. And that’s before you even factor in all your other commitments.
It’s ok if you stumble. The important thing is that you pick yourself up again (and we’ll help you. It’s part of the deal).
