Noortje De Keijzer and Her Life-Sized Knitted Boyfriend

I’m not the girl who always has a boyfriend. I’m the girl who rarely has a boyfriend.(Taylor Swift)

Well, Taylor – I’m not sure I believe you BUT let’s just say I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and suggest you check out Noortje De Keijzer’s ‘My Knitted Boyfriend’. He could be just what you need…

This has got to be my new favourite thing. Seriously. I think it’s absolutely brilliant. Can you imagine having a knitted boyfriend of your very own…?

Noortje De Keijzer has created ‘My Knitted Boyfriend’ – a cushion with an amazing story. As she says, “A cushion with a personality. A cushion to kiss! Or, well… to cuddle, to caress, to hug, and to smile with. Because this man is always happy. And he is flexible as well. He will have a mustache if you prefer mustaches. He will wear glasses if you prefer glasses. He likes to sit on your floor, on your couch or at you dinner table. But most of all he likes to lay down next to you in bed. With your head on his chest and his arms wrapped around you. This way you will never feel alone ever again. With this man you can be sure, he will never leave you.”

The oh-so-talented Ms De Keijzer and her ‘My Knitted Boyfriend’ product range have so far resulted in two knitted men. Arthur, born on 14 September 2011 is caucasian, with dark brown hair and black shorts. Steve, born on 27 September 2011 has darker skin (heritage unknown!), black hair and beige shorts. Arthur loves the camera but Steve is a bit harder to photograph (his colouring doesn’t lend itself to photography quite so well, apparently).

I like the bad-boy types. Generally the guy I’m attracted to is the guy in the club with all the tattoos and nail polish. He’s usually the lead singer in a punk band and plays guitar. But my serious boyfriends are relatively clean-cut, nice guys. (Megan Fox)

Perhaps Megan should have considered ‘My Knitted Boyfriend’ before she up and married whats-his-name-from-90210? I say this because ‘My Knitted Boyfriend’ comes with accessories! Could it get any better? You can dress him in a tie, give him a tattoo or glasses. Megan could have had a bad-boy in public who transforms into a clean-cut guy at home. A personalised knitted boyfriend!

And if all that wasn’t enough, there is the most whimsical short film about the birth of ‘The Knitted Boyfriend’ below. It is just about the best way I can think of to kill five minutes today…

Ha ha that is fantastic. You crack me up, just think if you got one you would be able to invest in the knitted family from yesterday for the wedding! Only slight hitch is he would not put the bins out, but on the positive no snoring ( or other bodily functions come to think of it) and no fighting over the tv remote! Hmm got me thinking not such a bad idea after all 🙂

I know – Sparks and I were on the same wave-length! Must be an HR thing!

The possibilities are endless when you start considering, BCD! 🙂

Too funny – I love him. I am going to contact the knitted family lady and ask if she can upsize to match knitted boyfriend in time for the wedding. I don’t know which of those photos made me laugh more, but they are brilliant. Fantastic find, TSL! 🙂

Excellent idea – let me know how she responds!

Did you watch the clip? It is so quirky and lovely. 🙂

That is hilarious, I just loved the video, and the song was perfect for it as well. 😀

I think she’s very clever, not to mention creative, Mags

Love this! Thanks for sharing!!

Always a pleasure, Tarapappas! Cheers for stopping by 🙂

Fabulous post!. Unfortunately I’m no knitter so my feeble attempt would be scarf boy with no legs or arms -or face, maybe just a scarf called Pete. Actually her knitted boyfriend looks pretty stuffed to me. (sorry! someone had to do it!)Cheers

I’m no knitter either (as previously mentioned!) but a girl can dream….

Pretty good for any needy girlfriend, if stuffed. , , Maybe I should get one for when H is out of town 🙂

I reckon’ he’d be pretty good to snuggle up to. 🙂

I want him! I often need a fill in when the husband travels….especially one with a sweet mustache 🙂 He might just be the ticket to cure that insomnia I’ve battled all these years! Brilliant find J!

I love that you can personalise him, S. Formal occasion? – no sweat – put him in a tie. Want a bit of ‘bad boy’ snuggling? – sweet. Pick your tattoo. Prefer a more intellectual guy? – put him in specs. Just brilliant!

Me too! Brilliant indeed!

Ms Syders! Where do you find these knitted creations? Inspiration for your haberdashery course 😉

Mmmm – perhaps a knitted boyfriend is aiming a teensy bit high for this ‘beginner haberdasher’, Marina (is that a word? – It is now!) 🙂

it is a word – the Oxford dictionary says so 😉

You are too funny! And, bugger! – I quite liked the idea that I had created a word.

When I was a teenager, a friend and I decided we’d introduce a new ‘trendy’ expression into the vernacular. We decided upon ‘bionic’. If we liked something, it became ‘bionic’. You know what? It worked. All these people at Auckland Uni saying things were ‘bionic’… Go figure! 🙂 (Thanks for reminding me of a lovely memory, M)

That’s awesome! You’re a born trend setter Ms Syders – what a cool story!

Less trend-setter, more fringe-dweller, I suspect! 🙂

That first pic cracks me up!

Brilliant, huh? LM rang me and asked if he was now redundant…?

I could definitely do with one of those! Great idea….

I reckon’, Lady Fi. They would keep you warm up where you are (although Oscar may get jealous?) 🙂

how come you only show him from the waist up?????

I’m afraid that had very little to do with me, you saucy thing! 🙂

After reading all of this I feel a bit shy to reply: such kind words! Thank you for the compliments and lovely blog post! I just want to say, don’t despair if you’re not such a good knitter…. just order a man with me! To answer imemine; some things need to be left to your own imagination. 😉 Oh, and watch the movie if you would like to see him in his full length. (and strength) Thanks again for this post, it’s means a lot to me I made you all smile!

Hello Noortje! Thanks so much for stopping by.
As you can see, Arthur is proving very popular with the ladies! We all seem to think he’s just the ticket and I think you are a very clever woman for creating him. A heartfelt thanks for providing so much joy in your ‘Knitted Boyfriend’ range.

For me, the movie just tops the whole thing off. It’s beautiful.

Thanks again! 🙂

sorry i hadn’t watched the video when i said that..i was reminded of some very scary anatomically correct nude knitted body suits i have seen before ..thank goodness for the shorts!!! what i love most about this one is that he is permanently smiling…what more could a girl ask for ??

This inspires me to improve my knitting – perhaps I could knit a spare husband so that when he is away I can still keep the bed warm! I think that I would knit a red head. Amazing knitting skills – Noortje is very very creative!

With all this a-crocheting and a-knitting, C – when will you have time for a-sewing?

I thoroughly enjoyed this post mainly because I love the idea of trying to replace real life things with knitted versions! Of course you can knit a boyfriend…….. : )

I absolutely loved this. Can’t wait to check out he book!

Hi Hillery – lovely and slightly kooky, yet just fab’, I reckon’!

LOL! And he won’t hog the duvet!

Finally!!!! the perfect boyfriend I have been looking for – warm, cuddly and not overly clingy (and machine washable what a bonus!). Does he come in cashmere I wonder? ha!

I reckon’ if you were to ask Noortje, she would be happy to knit a cashmere version. Perhaps he would have a name like ‘Karl’?

Knew you would like him! 🙂
